Happy Friday! Fall is in full swing and while it seems crazy, the holidays are just around the corner! As we start to think about holiday shopping for friends and family this year, you might be interested in supporting some local holiday shopping this year.
Throughout Colorado, we have a variety of artisans, start-up companies, local breweries, organic farms, and businesses to support. While many Coloradans do their holiday shopping at craft fairs and markets, of course, this year presents a challenge for hosting get-togethers.
Read on below to see our spotlight a few places to add to your local holiday shopping list along the Front Range, and virtually. It will help to start early this year since some establishments are moving their markets to earlier in the season so that they can still happen outdoors. For any in-person events, remember to wear your mask and practice social distancing.
So what are some good ideas for local holiday shopping? And how can we support our local artisans, makers, and artists this holiday season?
While the in-person event may be canceled this year, the Firefly Handmade market website lists local artists by craft for you to peruse. Many of these artists likely have online shops or Etsy websites that you can visit. Check often and follow crafters on Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date on sales they may hold. Check out the Firefly Handmade website here.
Harlequin’s Gardens in Boulder (In-person, outdoors, started now and runs through October)
For the entire month of October, Harlequin’s Gardens will be finishing off their plant and nursery season with the addition of local artists’ goods and crafts on display for sale. You can expect to see a variety of goods here from sauces and honey to pottery, metalwork, and hand-sewn stuffed animals and bags. The market generally happens in December during their off-season but has been rescheduled for October to allow shopping to take place outdoors. Check their website for their open hours and more info.
Vintrey Goods in Lafayette (In-person, indoors)
One of my favorite local places to get gifts is Vintrey Goods in Lafayette. They have a beautiful selection of jewelry, textiles, housewares, and neat vintage clothes for men and women. Follow them on Instagram here to see their wares and you can visit their website here.
Urban Market and Urban Holiday Market in Denver & Boulder (In-person, outdoors)
This market runs October 10th, 11th, 17th, and 18th from 11-6 and November 7th and 8th from 10-5. Locations vary week by week with events happening in Denver in various parks and on the 16th St. Mall. There is a Boulder Holiday Market planned as well. Click here to see information on vendors, locations, and dates of various events. Folks will be able to visit with local vendors and buy their goods directly. The Urban Market features live music each day at noon and admission is free. This market is organized by Colorado Events and will be following COVID-19 guidelines for outdoor events.
For Online Shopping, Check Out Etsy
While not all artists choose to sell on Etsy, you can find many local artists by filtering to Colorado on the Etsy website. You can search for specific items like moose baby onesies, or browse as you would at an in-person market.
Happy shopping! Until next time!
